Cobb Libraries Planning Fun Events During Holiday Break

Cobb libraries have a host of fun events so your family doesn't go bonkers during the holiday school break.

MARIETTA, GA -- School will be out for winter break Dec. 24 through early January for Cobb County and Marietta schools as well as for many private and homeschool students. Public libraries in Cobb will have plenty of activities packed throughout the holiday break. County libraries will be closed Sunday, Dec. 23,-Tuesday, Dec. 25. They will also close at 5 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 31, and reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Here are a few of the fun events:

  • Holiday Movie Saturday at Switzer Library 2-4 p.m., Dec. 22 Featuring "White Christmas," the classic 1954 holiday musical following the tale of two song and dance men and a sister act that pull together to help a retired military man save his Vermont inn.
  • Books to Movie Time at Sibley Library 4-6 p.m., Dec. 26 Bring your favorite snacks and enjoy a screening of a movie that started out as a book.
  • TWEEN ONLY Movie at West Cobb Regional Library 2:30-4:30 p.m., Dec. 26 Ages 9-12
  • Classic Movie Thursday at Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center 2-4 p.m., Dec. 27 Enjoy a screening of the classic "The Muppet Christmas Carol."
  • Celebrate Pete the Cat at West Cobb Regional Library 11 a.m.-noon, Dec. 28 Celebrate everyone’s favorite cat by sharing stories, playing games and making crafts. Ages 4 and older
  • Noon Years Eve at Vinings Library 11 a.m.-noon, Dec. 31 Ring in the New Year with story time, dressing up in fancy clothes and enjoying a balloon drop.
  • FORT Night at Sewell Mill Library and Cultural Center 5-7 p.m., Jan. 2 Bring blankets, clips, pillows and all of your favorite fort-making materials. Enjoy reading stories, dancing and other fun activities.
  • CAREing Paws: Read to Murray at Mountain View Regional Library 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Jan. 5 Sign up for a 15 minute session of reading to a certified CAREing Paws therapy dog. Spaces are limited. Register at the Children’s Reference Desk or call 770-509-4964.
  • Teen Movie Event: "The Dark Crystal" at East Cobb Library 2:30-4:30 p.m., Jan. 5 Teens of all ages are welcome to bring their favorite snacks and enjoy a showing of "The Dark Crystal" (PG).
