Cobb YMCAs assemble meal and hygiene kits for families in need

Northwest and Northeast Cobb Family YMCAs will host a two-day community service project for the YMCA "Days of Service"

In celebration of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's 160 year anniversary, the Y will host the "YMCA Days of Service." On September 14-15, the Y will gather 1,600 volunteers for 20 community service projects throughout metro Atlanta. One of those projects is the "Cobb Food & Housing Insecurity Outreach" project.

Leading up to the day of service on September 15, Northwest and the McCleskey Northeast Family YMCAs will gather resources to put together meal kits, toiletry kits and blankets, for food and housing insecure individuals within the community. On the day of service, more than 70 volunteers will work together to pack items into drawstring bags to be distributed.

Helping Cobb's needy families is nothing new to Becky Cross, Community Outreach Director of the Northwest Y. During the summer months, Becky and her outreach team visit local neighborhoods and deliver 400 lunches to hungry children, five days a week thorough their "Summer Lunch Break" program. The volunteers also bring games and toys to engage the children in fun, physical and social activities.
