The Hot Lips Hustle 5K is set for Sept. 12; learn more about the race and find out how to register

Staff Report

On September 12th, the Hot Lips Hustle 5K will again gather fun loving, philanthropically minded runners and walkers to cover 3.1 miles for a cause.

The race has raised nearly $70,000 for The Smile Train since its inception, raising funds to provide over 265 life-saving surgeries to children born with cleft lip and palate who cannot afford the treatment they need to live healthy lives. The race founder, now 23, was born with cleft lip and experienced a number of surgeries firsthand, which is how the cause was born some eleven years ago.

She says: “Just because cleft is common doesn’t mean that treatment is widely available; in many countries, this birth defect prevents children from receiving an education, getting jobs, and more. It can really be deadly, and we’re proud to partner with The Smile Train to save lives.”

This race marries a critical cause with a funky atmosphere. Participants will enjoy a top-notch race experience from start to finish: from the costumes and live DJ, to chip timing and trophies in a variety of age groups, to the unique post-race ice cream bar.
