East Cobb Animal Shelter Rescues Dorian-Displaced Cats
Fifty cats were rescued on Labor Day by Good Mews Animal Foundation, whose manager and volunteers drove 10 hours to save the animals.

ATLANTA — It was a busy Labor Day weekend for staff and volunteers at East Cobb-based Good Mews Animal Foundation, who traveled to a Glynn County shelter for an evacuation of 50 cats as Hurricane Dorian approached the southeastern United States. Shelter manager Kendra Ledlow and three volunteers made the 10-hour round trip from Atlanta Monday afternoon after being asked to save the animals.
Good Mews brought all the animals back safely in several volunteers mini-vans. Good Mews kept 32 of the cats and kittens and will give them any needed medical care while the other 18 were delivered to Best Friends animal society in Atlanta. Without the rescue, they noted, the cats would have been euthanized due to the evacuation.
On Aug. 29, Kemp issued a state of emergency for Brantley, Bryan, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Pierce and Wayne counties. Dozens of dogs and cats have already made their way from central Florida to the Atlanta Humane Society over the weekend to escape the path of Hurricane Dorian. The animals were already in the shelter before Dorian and are not stray or lost animals who might have been picked up during evacuations.
