East Cobb Cityhood Virtual Town Hall Slated For Wednesday Evening

EAST COBB, GA — A group promoting a renewed effort to make a city out of East Cobb will stage a virtual town hall Wednesday evening to provide information and answer questions. The town hall will be hosted by East Cobb Cityhood and Georgia Rep. Matt Dollar, sponsor of the latest bill to turn that part of Cobb County into a city.
The event begins at 6 p.m. and is limited to 250 registrants, all of whom must live in East Cobb. A link to register is on the East Cobb Cityhood website. A recording of the town hall will be posted online shortly after the live event.
An East Cobb cityhood bill was first introduced in 2019, then put on hold to give its sponsors time to build support for it. Speaking to East Cobb News, Dollar described the latest version of cityhood as a “city-lite model,” with a weak mayor and city council that would govern a town of about 55,000.

A City of East Cobb is touted by its backers as a way to keep growth under control. Its opponents, represented by the East Cobb Alliance, say cityhood will benefit only a few, yet saddle everyone with higher taxes.
If the Georgia legislature approves the East Cobb cityhood bill during the coming session, residents can vote on it in November.
