East Cobb Native, Tennis Star Undergoing Surgeries This Month
Melanie Oudin is having surgery for a heart condition on Thursday, and will soon have a surgery on one of her eyes.

A 23-year-old East Cobb native who rose to frame in the ranks of professional tennis is taking some time away from the game to have surgeries on her heart and her eyes.
According to the Marietta Daily Journal, Melanie Oudin was recently diagnosed with atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia, an irregular heartbeat which occurred during or immediately after her tennis matches.
Oudin was also diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, a condition which leads to damage of skeletal muscles.

The tennis player will have surgery on Thursday that is hoped to resolve her irregular heartbeat.
Following her recovery from the heart surgery, Oudin will again go under the knife to receive treatment for a growth in her eye caused by overexposure to the sun.

Oudin rose to prominence in 2009, when as a 17-year-old, she made it to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open, defeating tennis star Maria Sharapova in the process. She is currently ranked as the 165th best tennis player in the world.
