East Cobb Sex Shop Business License Revoked By County

The Tokyo Valentino on Johnson Ferry Road had its license pulled because Cobb County officials say its owner hid the business's true nature.

Tokyo Valentino's first Cobb County location in Marietta is already in danger of closing, thanks to tightened county restrictions. On Sept. 8, the county revoked the business license of the newest Tokyo Valentino on Johnson Ferry Road.

EAST COBB, GA — A Johnson Ferry Road sex shop will remain open until at least the end of October after Cobb County revoked its business license earlier this month.

The Tokyo Valentino adult store in East Cobb was to have had a due-cause hearing before Tuesday night’s meeting of the county commission, but attorneys for the store asked for a delay.

The hearing will be postponed until Oct. 27, according to The Marietta Daily Journal.

A Sept. 8 letter to Tokyo Valentino from Cobb County said its East Cobb license was being pulled because the store’s owner, Michael Morrison, lied about his business’s true nature when he applied.

The application identified the store as “1290 Clothing,” but, according to Ellisia Webb, manager of the Cobb’s business-license division, the store never presented itself to the public that way.

Also, the application claimed 1290 Clothing would sell “clothing, undergarments, shoes, games, cards & other misc.”

What it didn’t mention, according to Webb’s letter, was that it would also sell “’lotions & lubes’, ‘toys’, and ‘smoke products’.”

The opening of Tokyo Valentino in East Cobb drew immediate fire from neighbors, including an online petition against it that garnered almost 3,000 signatures.

Another Tokyo Valentino location in the county is facing a battle of its own, after the Cobb County Board of Commissioners tightened restrictions on sex shops earlier this month, possibly forcing the Marietta location to close.
