Gwinnett Man Charged With Murder, Leads To KSU Lockdown
A deadly shooting at a South Cobb Parkway restaurant led to a manhunt on Kennesaw State University's Marietta campus.
MARIETTA, GA — A Duluth man was charged with felony murder after a Sunday-afternoon shooting that led to the lockdown of Kennesaw State University’s Marietta campus.
Jose Lemus-Maldonado, 50, was found hiding in thick brush behind the KSU baseball field after fleeing the El Ranchero Restaurant on South Cobb Parkway, according to The Marietta Daily Journal.
Authorities said the believe Lemus-Maldonado shot Janice Ross, 43, of Atlanta at the restaurant before fleeing. Ross died at the scene.

Police from Cobb County and KSU — as well as a Georgia State Patrol helicopter — joined the search, but it took K-9 Jacquo to eventually apprehend Lemus-Maldonado, according to a spokesperson for the Marietta Police Department.
Lemus-Maldonado had to be taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for stitches for minor injuries after Jacquo caught him. Lemus-Maldonado is now being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Authorities said that Lemus-Maldonado told police he and Ross had been in a long-term relationship.
