In Loving Memory of Ethyl Stephens Reed, 88

Ethyl Stephens Reed, age 88, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Fort Valley, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015.

Mrs. Reed was born to Homer and Annie Stephens on February 20, 1927. She was one of six children and attended Fort Valley First Baptist Church where she was a member. She met and married L. A. Reed and had three children, Michael, Shirley, and Michelle. Mr. Reed, a Veteran Merchant Marine, worked at his business, S. R. Reed Brake Shop while Mrs. Reed worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Dan Nathan. Their family later grew to include three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Affectionately known as “Nanny,” she was an avid reader and enjoyed making ceramics in her younger days. She will be remembered as a caregiver to all. She loved all things purple.

Mrs. Reed is preceded by her loving husband of 53 years, L. A. Reed; parents, Homer and Annie Stephens; brothers and sisters, Hubbard Stephens, Marvin Stephens, Judy Gibson, Wallace Stephens, and Frances Woodard; father and mother in law, Russell and Mary Reed; brothers in law, Russell Reed and Al Reed.

She is survived by son, Michael Reed of Marietta; daughters, Shirley Carter (Bobby) of Marietta and Michelle Wall of Powder Springs; grandchildren, Kelsi Wall, Kevin Carter (Erika) and Greg Carter (Courtney); great-grandchildren, Chelsea Carter Morgan (Whit) and Henry Carter; brothers in law, Ted Reed, Roger Reed, and Charlie Reed; sisters in law, Christine Rolfe, Barbara Davis, Letha Dodge, and Lydia Grass; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw. Graveside Services will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, October 9, 2015 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Inurnment will follow.
