Marietta Man Pleads Guilty To Stealing $300,000 PPP Money

A U.S. attorney's complaint alleged that Stanely Dorceus falsified documents when he requested the PPP loan on May 10.

EAST COBB, GA — Sentencing is scheduled for November for the owner of an East Cobb business who pleaded guilty to stealing $300,000 in Paycheck Protection Program money.

Stanley Dorceus made the plea in Atlanta Wednesday before U.S. District Judge Leigh Martin May.

A U.S. attorney’s complaint alleged that Dorceus falsified documents when he requested the PPP loan on May 10.

In his PPP application, Dorceus claimed that his business, Elevate Horizon, had 16 employees and that he paid them more than $358,000 in the first quarter of 2019.

However, according to the complaint, Elevate Horizons made no quarterly tax filings in 2019.

After Elevate Horizons received the money on May 12, Dorceus wrote and signed checks from the company account for an “unknown individual” who helped him file his request, according to court documents.

He also wrote himself checks worth more than $20,000, along with a check for more than $8,000 to another individual who returned most of the money to Dorceus.

According to The Marietta Daily Journal, Elevate Horizon is located at 1687 Cedar Bluff Way in Marietta and has no web presence.

Dorceus was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 12.
