Marietta Native Traded to Hometown Braves
Dansby Swanson was the top overall pick in the MLB draft in June, but was traded to Atlanta for Shelby Miller during the Winter Meetings.

A Cobb County native may soon get the chance to toe the slab for his hometown team.
Dansby Swanson, the no. 1 pick in the 2015 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, was traded to the Atlanta Braves along with other prospects for pitcher Shelby Miller on Tuesday.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Swanson could be playing for the big club at its new Cobb County ballpark as soon as 2017.

Swanson played basketball and baseball at Marietta High School and was a shortstop at Vanderbilt University, where he was named the most outstanding player in the Commodores’ 2014 run to the College World Series title.
Swanson’s first professional season was with the Hillsboro Hops, who play in short-season Class A’s Northwest League. In 22 games, Swanson hit .289 with a .394 on-base percentage and a .876 OPS. He had one home run and 11 RBIs.

In the field, Swanson recorded a .970 fielding percentage with 10 double plays turned and three errors committed in 101 chances.
