New Year's Eve Street Closures Announced

Police are preparing the square for Thursday night's party ringing in 2016.

MARIETTA, GA -- Marietta police will soon be closing several roads in and around Marietta Square in advance of the New Year’s Eve party scheduled for this afternoon and evening.

Roadways in and around the square will be closing starting at 11 a.m., with a full closure of the square set for 5:30 p.m.

People heading to the party can park at one of three parking decks open to the public for the evening, located at 120 Cherokee Street and 191 and 205 Lawrence streets.

There will be signs up for detours and areas to park. Plan ahead for traffic delays!

The square will come alive with music, food, football, and more starting at 8 p.m. and going well into the new year, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. A ball drop will ring in the new year in the heart of the square, though the final location has yet to be determined.

Football fans won’t have to worry about missing bowl games, as a 20 foot tall television will be installed in the square, the MDJ says.

Families can join in the fun between 2 and 7 p.m. and take part in a special ball drop for the kids at 7 p.m., according to the MDJ.
