No Injuries Reported in Huge Cobb Warehouse Fire on Friday

Blaze broke out around 8 p.m. in a warehouse containing chemicals on Industrial Park Drive.

At 6:48 a.m. Saturday, Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin emailed the following statement:

The Marietta Fire Department worked in conjunction with Cobb Fire, Lockheed Fire Dept and Dobbins Fire Dept. to battle the blaze at the AMREP chemical company. Over 25 pieces of fire equipment were on scene and the fire was eventually extinguished after 4 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014.

The fire was initially called in around 8 p..m on Friday, May 23, and the building was fully engulfed in flames when the first engine arrived on scene. A number of explosions were heard, felt and scene due to the chemical containers that were inside the business. There was damage reported to an adjacent business.  The EPA and the Fire Department performed numerous air quality tests throughout the event and at no time were any toxic chemicals released into the atmosphere. There were no dangers whatsoever as to any toxic materials being released in the smoke.

A cause into the blaze is still under full investigation. Firefighters will remain on scene for quite some time throughout the day extinguishing any hot spots and conducting their investigation. There were no reports of injuries to civilians or firefighters. There were no residential areas affected or evacuated due to the fire. 

All major roadways have been re-opened. Most of the roadway in the industrial complex will also re-open except for the affected area from the fire.

A massive fire at a Cobb Parkway area warehouse resulted in dozens of evacuations and temporarily closed Highway 41 between the Canton Connector and North Marietta Parkway on Friday night.

Reportedly at least 25 fire trucks with crews from both Cobb County and the City of Marietta worked into the early morning hours to contain the huge fire that broke out around 8 p.m. in a warehouse containing chemicals on Industrial Park Drive.

Several explosions occurred and plumes of black smoke were sent hundreds of feet into the air that could be seen from miles around.

There were no injuries reported and the smoke from the huge blaze was not toxic according to Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin.
