Police Chase Ends in Gunfire Near Piedmont Hospital: Police (Update)

Cobb County police say the incident began when the suspect was seen trying to start a fire near a propane tank.

MARIETTA, GA -- A man has been arrested after police said he led officers from multiple jurisdictions on a cross-county chase that ended with gunshots Friday afternoon.

Cobb County police said the suspect was first spotted trying to start a fire near propane tanks near the intersection of Dallas Highway and Barrett Parkway just before 2 p.m.

Police added that a park ranger initiated a traffic stop on the suspect at North Marietta Parkway and Hill Street, but the suspect fled the scene.

Georgia state troopers picked up the pursuit of the suspect’s SUV on Interstate 75 southbound, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Troopers chased the SUV to Howell Mill Road, Collier Road, then finally ended the chase at Piedmont Hospital. During the chase, the suspect’s SUV hit two other vehicles.

After the crash, the suspect exited the SUV and opened fire on troopers, according to the state patrol.

The suspect was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, according to the state patrol.
