Pope Standout Webb Gets COVID-19, Pulled From Dawgs' Rotation
The only Dawg to make preseason All-American, Pope standout Ryan Webb left Georgia's starting rotation after testing positive for COVID-19.
EAST COBB, GA — Pope High School standout pitcher Ryan Webb has been pulled from the University of Georgia’s starting rotation going into the 2021 season after testing positive for COVID-19.
During Wednesday’s virtual press conference, Bulldog head coach Scott Stricklin said Webb was “very questionable for opening weekend.”
Pitcher Jonathan Cannon also was benched after being diagnosed with mononucleosis, according to Georgia student newspaper The Red & Black. Neither Webb nor Cannon will be rushed back to play, Stricklin said, adding that “you’ve got to build them up and you got to build them up slowly.”
