Making East Cobb a city is touted by its backers as a way to keep growth under control. Its opponents, represented by the East Cobb Alliance, say cityhood will benefit only a few, yet saddle everyone with higher taxes.
If the Georgia legislature approves the East Cobb cityhood bill during the coming session, residents can vote on it in December.
