Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?

Meyer: I began my career in senior living while in college. Initiating my experiences as an intern in a nursing home, I spent the next 25-plus years as a social worker and then became director of a skilled nursing home in Buckhead before joining the Arbor Company.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business missions to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Meyer: We listen. We respond. We care.

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

Meyer: Making sure that the needs of the residents are clearly understood and then communicated to the care givers to ensure that everyone works as a team for the best outcome for the residents and their families. Clear communications between all three components, the caregivers, the residents and their families is critical so that there is transparency and not misunderstandings.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Meyer: Being a part of a community – I love being a part of our residents' and their families' lives.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?

Meyer: The Arbor Company places a high value on creating a continuation of a living experience that transcends just the day-to-day needs of a resident to reaching a fulfilling, exceptional life in a community that truly becomes a happy home to our residents and their families. The highest standard of service and residence experiences are a top priority to each and every employee of The Arbor Company from the top executive to the daily caregiver. Arbor’s philosophy is a way of life!

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

Meyer: Excellence begins with me and only with leading by example can success come when the goals of excellence are not compromised but sought after daily. Success is only truly measured in the lives that you touch and impact in a positive way.

Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?

Meyer: Opening a new community and sharing the excellent β€œArbor story” with the East Cobb business and residential community!

We hope to have our community open and accepting residents at the beginning of June 2018. Our sales trailer will be open in January 2018. The 94-apartment senior community will have studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, a beautiful dining area and bistro, library, theater, crafts rooms, activity rooms, concierge services and mobile transportation.

Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community?

Meyer: Heart 2 Heart – Guinness book of World Records’ β€œLargest Bingo Card Ever Played.” It is an event to benefit Children's Healthcare Of Atlanta's Sibley Heart Center and Cobb County Senior Services. It takes place on Feb. 22, 2018 at Olde Towne Athletic Club Marietta, GA.
