Election 2014: Gwinnett County Voters Favor GOP

Gwinnett County voters picked Deal and Perdue, and other Republican candidates, too.

Voters in Peachtree Corners and the rest of Gwinnett County came out in large numbers for Tuesday’s general election.

According to Georgia Secretary of State data, 199,550 of Gwinnett County’s 396,271 registered voters cast their ballots in Election 2014, a voter turnout of 50.36 percent. The statewide turnout was 49.9 percent.

As expected, Gwinnettians voted heavily Republican, including in the hot races for U.S. Senate and Governor.

David Perdue, who beat Democrat Michelle Nunn for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by retiring Saxby Chambliss, scored 54.26 percent of the vote in Gwinnett, more than 10 points better than Nunn’s 43.59. Perdue drew 53 percent statewide.

In the Governor’s race, Nathan Deal, who beat challenger Jason Carter, collected 54.48 percent in Gwinnett. Carter had 42.84. Deal also drew around 53 percent in Georgia.
