GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Traffic on Interstate 85 near Atlanta was blocked for nearly two hours early Friday morning while authorities investigated the fatal shooting of a Texas rapper.

Gwinnett police found Houston rapper Chucky Trill — real name Corey Detiege — at about 3 a.m. in a stopped car on I-85 south near Jimmy Carter Boulevard. According to Cpl. Collin Flynn of the Gwinnett County Police Department, he had been shot at least once. He died at a local hospital.

Detiege, 33, was in the Atlanta area for the NBA All-Star Weekend, according to his manager, who confirmed his death to The Houston Chronicle.

Fellow rappers — including Atlanta's Dirty Redd World — began posting social-media tributes to Chucky Trill Friday morning.

Chucky Trill was the son of another popular Houston rapper, D of Trinity Garden Cartel. He was also the cousin of C Note from the Botany Boyz, according to The Houston Chronicle.

Gwinnett detectives said they don’t know why Detiege was shot or if there was anyone else in the car before they found him. They don’t have a description of the vehicle driven by the suspected shooter either, but they hope witnesses can step forward and help them fill in the blanks.

“Obviously these types of shootings are very concerning for the police department,” Flynn said to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Not only do you have the two vehicles involved in the shooting, but you also have multiple people that are driving on the interstate that could also be victims in these types of crimes.”

Trill's fatal shooting was the second one Friday on metro Atlanta interstates. Another man was shot an hour earlier, blocking the southbound I-75 near Mt. Zion Boulevard for several hours. That gunshot victim survived. His shooting is being investigated.

Five people have been shot and four have died on Atlanta-area interstates since the beginning of 2021. In addition to Friday's shooting of Chucky Trill in Gwinnett County:
