Former Gwinnett Sheriff's Major Arrested on Fraud Charges

Nicholas Neal, of Dacula, was booked into the Gwinnett County jail on Sunday, July 21.

A former Gwinnett County sheriff's major has been arrested on charges of financial fraud.

Nicholas Neal was booked into Gwinnett County Detention Center after midnight on Sunday, July 21. He was charged with financial identity fraud and held on a $100,000 bond.

Neal, who lives in Dacula, was released on bond about 1:18 a.m. on Sunday.

Last week, Gwinnett County grand jury indicted Neal. He is accused of using his position for personal gain.

According to WSB-TV, the indictment steams from a investigation into his financial connections with at least two local companies that had dealings with Gwinnett County.

In regards to an auto parts store, District Attorney Danny Porter was quoted as saying:

"We believe we can show that he had an ownership in the distributorship, sold the parts, and he derived a profit from that."
