Georgia's New Child Care 'Quality Rated' System Launches

This week, Georgia's parents got their first look at new statewide system aimed at making choosing quality child care easier.

The new Quality Ratings System gives high marks to the best child care options in the state. Participation by providers is voluntary, however.

On July 1, the system became available for parents to use. Currently, there are about 50 facilities in Gwinnett County that are participating in the Quality Rated system.

All child care providers participating in the system have agreed to meet standards that exceed the state’s licensing requirements. Following the application process, providers are awarded one, two or three stars.

The differences are based on scores above benchmarks, but each rating indicates a higher quality program.
