Police say an 80-year-old man may have had a medical emergency that caused a deadly wreck with a special education school bus Wednesday afternoon near Buford, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post.

Darwin McEntyre of Buford was the driver of a black Chevrolet Equinox that crashed into the bus near the intersection of Pucketts Mill Road and Hamilton Mill Road at about 3 p.m. Police said McEntyre died at the scene and may have experienced a medical problem.

Police said McEntyre was traveling north on Hamilton Mill Road while the bus was traveling south. When approaching a traffic light near Cascade Falls Drive, McEntyre suddenly lost control of his vehicle, crossed in to oncoming traffic and struck the bus head on.

Officials with Gwinnett County Public Schools said the bus was driving students home from Ivy Creek Elementary School. There were five students on board — ranging in age from 3 to 7 — along with a driver and a monitor, school officials told the Daily Post.

No one on the bus was seriously injured. The children, all fine, were later transported home.
