Gwinnett Medical Center Hosts Trauma Awareness Day

The public will learn valuable information about trauma care at the event.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – On Wednesday, May 16, Gwinnett Medical Center’s (GMC) Trauma Services will host Trauma Awareness Day at the GMC-Lawrenceville’s main lobby from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. At this event, the public will learn valuable information about trauma care, trauma prevention and life-saving tourniquet training from the experts. This event is open to the public, as well as any organizations or groups.

In honor of Trauma Awareness Month, GMC’s Trauma Services is working with community partners and medical experts to help educate and empower the community about trauma. Community partners include Gwinnett Police and Fire Department, Air Evac, Georgia Department of Drivers Services and more.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, traumatic injuries are the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States for all age groups and the leading cause of death for ages 1-44 years old. GMC-L is a state designated Level II trauma center and the only trauma center in Gwinnett County.

Trauma Services includes:

  • Experienced dedicated trauma surgeons available 24/7
  • Board certified emergency medicine physicians
  • Orthopedic, neurosurgery and complex facial trauma specialist
  • Dedicated operating rooms available 24/7 for trauma/emergency cases
  • Dedicated trauma nurses
  • Compliment of support services such as imaging, respiratory therapy
