Gwinnett Parks Are Mostly Open For Weekend — But Check First

Buford Dam Park on Lake Lanier is closed for the Memorial Day weekend, but other parks on Lake Lanier are open. Here's info on the rest.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Planning your Memorial Day weekend? Parades and similar events have been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, but parks are largely open — as long as patrons practice social distancing.

Georgia's state parks are open, but crowds have been limited at the busiest parks. For the latest information on state parks, visit the Georgia Department of Natural Resource's website, or visit the Facebook page of a particular park.

With the exception of indoor facilities, aquatic centers and pools, Gwinnett County parks are largely open over the Memorial Day weekend. Parks close at sunset, and patrons are expected to follow Center for Disease Control safety requirements to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Buford Dam Park on Lake Lanier, run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be closed over the Memorial Day weekend. All other Lake Lanier parks will be open. Also, all restrooms will be open. For the latest information, visit the corps’ Facebook page.
