
The Miss Georgia pageant is kicking off, and several local women are among those who may be chosen as the grand winner.
The beauty and scholarship pageant takes place in Columbus, Ga., June 19-22.
Shelby Rice, who is Miss Gwinnett, seemed to be in good spirits Wednesday.
"It's competition day! It's competition day! It's competition day!!! Little too excited over here," she tweeted.
Once the winner is crowned on June 22, she moves on to represent Georgia in the storied Miss America pageant in September.
Local women competing for the Miss Georgia title, include:
- Carly Mathis, Miss Atlanta
- Jazmine Scroggins, Miss Capital City
- Emily Diamond, Miss Georgia State University
- Shelby Rice, Miss Gwinnett County*
- Meredith Crawley, Miss Lake Lanier
*Rice resides in Columbus, Ga., which is part of the Miss Gwinnett pageant territory.)
