Roof Collapses During Fire at Former Pike's Nurseries Location
Fire at the vacant business was reported on Lawrenceville Highway Monday afternoon.
Gwinnett County fire crews worked a large fire Monday afternoon at the former Pike’s Nurseries location on Lawrenceville Highway near Tucker and Lilburn.
The fire was reported at 1:47 p.m. by a passerby who saw the raging fire. The business has been vacant for years, fire officials said.
Heavy smoke and flames billowed from the scene when firefighters arrived. Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said firefighters had to cut the lock on the security gate to get to the fire.

The fire was brought under control at 2:24 p.m.
“The fire caused heavy damage to part of the warehouse and a collapse of the metal roof over the burned area,” Rutledge said in a news release. “The aggressive actions of the firefighters kept the flames from spreading throughout the entire structure.”
