Snellville Man Convicted Of Meth Trafficking

A sheriff's deputy pulled him over because he had an active warrant, authorities say, and found two containers of meth.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A Snellville man was convicted on methamphetamine trafficking charges, according to a release from the Gwinnett County District Attorney.

Cristhian Guzman de Paz, 21, was pulled over in the lot of the Valero gas station on Beaver Ruin Road off of I-85 after a Gwinnett County deputy ran his license plate, finding that he had an active warrant for his arrest.

The deputy smelled marijuana, the release says, and asked the passenger if there was any in the car. The passenger gave a small amount to the deputy, who then detained the two and searched the car.

The deputy found two plastic containers filled with methamphetamine, each with about a kilogram inside, the release says, with a total street value of up to $240,000 if sold by the gram.

Guzman de Paz was convicted of methamphetamine trafficking and sentenced to 25 years in prison alongside a $1 million fine. The passenger was found guilty of marijuana possession and sentenced to one year in the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
