Staff Report

The College of Continuing and Professional Education’s Real Estate Property Management course is slated to begin on Jan. 24. The certificate-based program is aimed at preparing students to move directly and easily into real estate careers. The class, which qualifies for VA Education Benefits, is taught by a group of instructors possessing more than 150 years of combined experience.

“Students are not only are learning theory, they are learning how to apply it and what it looks like in real life,” said Deborah Westphal, instructor and executive director of the Institute of Real Estate Management (GA Chapter #67). “Organizations like IREM, National Apartment Association and Georgia Apartment Industry Education Foundation are promoting careers in our industry as a way to attract more qualified individuals into real estate.”

This course is designed to orient students to the leasing and customer service responsibilities of the apartment industry. Topics include introduction to the apartment industry, apartment marketing and leasing, fair housing, risk management and career opportunities.

Additionally, students will have exposure to actual industry leaders. The format of the classes is highly interactive with game elements. Students will participate in practice situations, discussions and case study analyses.

“The future is looking brighter for the real estate industry, and training students to be prepared for this influx of business opportunities will be a top priority for the class,” Westphal said.
