Desecration of the Holy Qur'an

As an Ahmadi Muslim woman I strongly condemn the horrific provocations by the Islamophobic and prejudiced politician whose followers burnt the sacred book of Islam-the Holy Qur’an in Malmo, Sweden. This hideous act achieved nothing but caused distress and anger to millions of peace-loving Muslims worldwide. Burning any religious scripture is a shameful act and is directly contrary to the teachings of all the world’s major religions.

It is the time to eradicate religious extremism of all kinds as it does not reflect the true teachings of the religion. There is nothing wrong with intellectual or theological debate but this should be conducted within the bounds of decency and tolerance. Instead, these barbaric acts are spreading hatred and enmity. Those who perpetrate such acts fail to realize the true teachings of Islam. The Holy Qur’an was sent as a gift to mankind and its teachings are filled with love, tolerance, and respect.

The world needs peace, love, and an end to wars. Instead of burning religious books, we need peace to prevail, and for this to occur people of all faiths must join together and stop these disgraceful acts.
