Fire Heavily Damages Lawrenceville Apartment Complex
The Saturday afternoon blaze displaced numerous residents and destroyed several apartments, says Gwinnett fire department.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A fire on Saturday afternoon displaced more than 30 people from a Lawrenceville-area apartment complex and damaged 15 units, according to Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services. There were no injuries reported in the blaze in the 3500 block of Club Drive NW.
Firefighters responded to the scene at about 3:45 p.m. Saturday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
They encountered heavy smoke coming from the attic on the back side of the building, the fire department said. The occupants were already evacuating the premises when fire trucks arrived.

The firefighters got the blaze under control in about 45 minutes, the AJC reported. The American Red Cross is aiding 31 people who evacuated the apartments.
Multiple units were deemed to be at a total loss, the fire department said. Other units sustained smoke, heat and water damage.

On Monday, the fire department said that investigators found that the fire started in the closet of a bedroom in an apartment in the rear of the building. The cause of that fire has not been determined.
