First Public Hearing on Proposed Gwinnett County Tax Rates June 25

The first of three public hearings on newly proposed Gwinnett County tax rates will be held Tuesday, June 25.

The public hearing takes place at 6 p.m. at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center's auditorium located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.

Additional public hearings will take place June 2 at 3:30 p.m. and July 9 at 6:30 p.m. 

Besides attending the sessions, the public may also submit their questions or concerns online.

>> Most incorporated cities -- Berkeley Lake, Buford, Dacula, Grayson, Peachtree Corners, Rest Haven and Sugar Hill -- will have slight increases: a .37 increase of the tax rate. (These locations do not have their own police force.)

>> Other cities -- Auburn, Braselton, Duluth, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Loganville, Norcross and Snellville -- will have decreases in their tax rates. (The cities have their own police force.)

  • Most residents with a $157,000 will pay $65 less under proposed rates; Loganville residents would pay $234 less, the AJC reported.

In unincorporated Gwinnett County, there will be a slight increase in the tax rate.

  • Owners of a $157,000 home would pay about $38 more this year than last, the AJC reported.
