Football Playoffs: Archer, Etowah Both Newcomers to State Final 4
Archer Tigers play the Etowah Eagles in the Class 6A semifinals to chance at state championship

First-time semifinalists will be playing for a shot at the state football championship this weekend at Archer High School.
Neither the Archer Tigers nor the Etowah Eagles have been this far in the Georgia High School Association Class 6A football playoffs, according to Georgia High School Football Daily.

Archer, which opened in 2009, is the seventh Gwinnett County school to reach the final four in the state’s largest classification. Last week, the Tigers blew out Hillgrove 56-13 in the quarterfinals after taking a 56-0 lead by halftime.
Etowah, which beat Newton 43-29 last week, is the first Cherokee County team to reach the semifinals, the football daily said. The Eagles trailed 29-21 with nine minutes left in the game.

The winner advanced to face either McEachern or Colquitt County in the state championship game.
