Gwinnett County To Fund $1.9 Million to Help Busy Intersection

The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners have approved money to ease congestion at State Route 316 and U.S. 29.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners have approved an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to fund the preliminary design of an improved interchange at State Route 316 and U.S. 29.

GDOT will contribute up to $1.9 million and the county will provide matching funds for the project, which includes interchanges at Hurricane Trail and U.S. 29/State Route 8/Winder Highway. The 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) program will fund the county’s portion of this agreement.

This agreement is part of a continued partnership with the GDOT for improvements to the State Route 316 corridor from Hi-Hope Road to Harbins Road. These projects will improve mobility and safety along the corridor.

“Voter approval of SPLOST and a strong working relationship with GDOT allow us to make our roadways safer,” said District 3 Commissioner Tommy Hunter. “Our long term goal is to fully convert 316 to freeway standards to improve mobility and freight movement in Gwinnett County. Our continued working relationship with GDOT will allow us to leverage our SPLOST dollars to attain this goal.”
