Hazardous Weather Tonight: Gwinnett, Forsyth, Douglas, Paulding

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for portions of North andCentral Georgia, including Douglas, Paulding, Gwinnett and Forsyth Counties. Up to 40 mph wind, frequent cloud to ground lightning, heavy rain and a tornado will also be possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected across north and central Georgia this afternoon into tonight. Some storms will be severe, most so north and west of Atlanta.

The main hazards will be damaging winds, frequent lightning, and isolated flooding from heavy rainfall. An isolated tornado will also be possible.

Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Some locations in the path of this storm include Atlanta, Decatur, Conyers, East Point, Snellville, Lilburn, Chamblee, Clarkston, Stone Mountain, Avondale Estates, Grayson, Lithonia, Pine Lake, Tucker, Belvedere Park, North Decatur, North Atlanta, North Druid Hills, Midtown and Grant Park-Zoo Atlanta.

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Motorists should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to hydroplaning.

Saturday through Thursday

There is a chance of thunderstorms everyday for the next week, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. A few storms could be strong to severe each day with gusty winds, frequent lightning and isolated flooding from heavy rainfall.
