LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Some of the names have changed, but when it comes to high school football in Georgia, the story remains the same — several Gwinnett County teams are making runs late into the state playoffs.

Brookwood, Buford, Greater Atlanta Christian and North Gwinnett all remain in the hunt for the state title, with semi-final matchups in their respective divisions scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday. The winners will play for it all on Dec. 8-9 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The No.-3 ranked Buford Wolves will be put to the test by unbeaten Rome, the defending Class AAAAA champion. Under first-year coach John Ford, the Wolves go into the matchup 11-1.

In big-school Class AAAAAAA, North Gwinnett will host perennial power McEachern for a shot at Mercedes-Benz. The Bulldogs are 12-1 on the year, after beating Marietta 51-41 last week, while McCeachern, at 10-3, is coming off of a 43-28 playoff upset of Parkview.
