In addition to assembling donation packages, Castro and GGC students will create “no sew” blankets, friendship bracelets and also write letters to young patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
“We have a great relationship with the Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry and have worked closely with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for past initiatives,” Castro said.
“This project is an exciting opportunity to work with our partners, to serve our community and to recognize Dr. King’s legacy of service.”
In 1994, Gwinnett County was the largest county east of the Mississippi without a four-year college so Gwinnett leaders purchased 160 acres of land and designated it specifically for the development of a college campus. GGC opened its doors in 2006 as the first four-year college founded in Georgia in more than 100 years, and the first four-year, public college created in the U.S. in the 21st century. Georgia Gwinnett College is a member of the University System of Georgia and has about 12,000 students.
