House Party Fatal Shooting Leads To Lawrenceville Man's Arrest

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A Lawrenceville man has been charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old at a Suwanee house party last Monday, according to Gwinnett police.

Jose Rivera, 23, was arrested Friday on murder and aggravated assault charges, jail records show.

Rivera is accused of killing Christopher Morand of Lawrencville at a home on Taylor Road near Doe Court after a party the night before. It's unclear what the delay was.

Witnesses said at some point during the party, a fight broke out and Morand — a Collins High School graduate — was shot at the home in unincorporated Suwanee, according to Gwinnett Police.

Police said at least 10 people attended the party but would not reveal how many, if any, were still there when they arrived hours later, according to the AJC.

Rivera remains held at the Gwinnett County jail without bond, records show.

Police still need a motive for the argument and are asking for the public's help.
