A Lawrenceville man and a Loganville man were beaten up by a group of men with baseball bats in the Grayson area over a girl earlier this month.

According to the Gwinnett County Police report, the 27-year-old Lawrenceville man was getting a ride from his friend, a 47-year-old from Loganville, after working at Sonic off Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville early one Friday.

After the Lawrenceville man downed a few beers, they decided to go to Walmart. On the way, his friend told him they needed to make a quick stop at the clubhouse in the Wheatstone subdivision near Round Road.

Before their vehicle even came to a complete stop near the clubhouse, three or four men appeared and started striking the car with baseball bats. The men then opened their doors, dragged them out and started hitting them with the bats, their hands and feet, and other unknown objects.

The driver had bruises and baseball bat imprints on his back. The passenger's injuries were much worse: His body was covered with blood, and he had many lacerations, swollen lumps and bruises on his forehead, legs, arms, fingers, shoulders and back. He had severe head pain and possibly a mild concussion, too.

While the passenger didn't know the men, the driver did.

The Loganville man told police that the situation rooted back to a few days ago regarding a 15-year-old female friend. The girl's boyfriend had called him to ask what his relationship was to her, and they exchanged several obscene and vulgar words.

The argument continued through text messages and more phone calls. They later met up and a physical altercation ensued. The boyfriend left, saying he was going to get his gun, but he never returned.

Fast forward to the recent situation and they had another phone argument before he left Sonic. The driver knew they were going to meet the other man to fight, but his friend didn't, according to the report.

When the two groups met, the driver was able to protect himself with a tire iron from his car while his friend didn't have anything for defense. The Loganville man said he was calling the cops, and the suspects ran off.

The older man directed officers to the girl's house in the neighborhood, but her father told police that she wasn't home and he had no idea when she would be home. He also said that she doesn't have a cell phone and he has no way of contacting her. Additionally, he doesn't know her boyfriend.

When officers offered to find her for him, the father declined. They advised him on runaway procedures and how to contact juvenile courts, anyway.

Gwinnett Police contacted the father again later that evening to check on his daughter's whereabouts. This time, he said she was at a friend's house but didn't provide any additional details.

According to the police report, the suspects have not been identified or apprehended.
