Lawrenceville Receives 2019 Live, Work, Play City Award

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Lawrenceville Georgia has received the 2019 Live, Work, Play Award for a large city, population of 25,000 and greater, presented by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), in conjunction with Georgia Trend Magazine. The award was presented to local City officials during GMA’s annual Mayors’ Day Conference in Atlanta.

“We are honored to be recognized for our efforts in community development and growth,” said Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson, City of Lawrenceville. “It is even more reassuring when you are honored by your peers – other cities - who are working to achieve similar goals, but unique to their own communities. Thank you, GMA, for the opportunity to share what we are accomplishing in Lawrenceville, and congratulations to all winners!”

Lawrenceville was recognized as a large-city, population of 25,000 and greater, winner for its success in advancing job creation, housing offerings, and recreational amenities. Other winners in this category included Canton, Duluth and Valdosta.

Judges for GMA’s 2019 Live, Work, Play Cities Award represented Georgia Power’s office of Community & Economic Impact, the Department of Community Affairs, the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government and the Georgia Council for the Arts.

“These cities truly embody well-rounded communities that benefit residents and businesses alike,” said GMA executive director Larry Hanson. “They also serve as examples for local governments across Georgia. Officials in these cities have demonstrated advanced problem-solving, exceptional management and teamwork to increase the overall quality of life
for all residents. GMA is honored to serve all of our member cities and especially proud of these award recipients.”

GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, research, training, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its 538 member cities. In addition to being recognized during GMA’s Mayors’ Day, winning cities will be highlighted in the association’s monthly newspaper, Georgia’s Cities, as well as being featured in the February 2019 issue of Georgia Trend magazine.
