Moms Take a Stand Against Gun Violence With Lemonade Stand

"We're turning the lemons congress gave us into lemonade," shouted one mother in front of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville, Ga. Wednesday.

The group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense held a rally and encouraged people to send postcards to Congressman Rob Woodall saying they're taking a stand against gun violence. In exchange for the postcards, the moms handed out free lemonade to supporters.

“Congress gave America lemons in April when the Senate failed to pass common-sense legislation that would have expanded background checks on all gun sales," said Piyali Cole, Co Leader of the Atlanta chapter. "Moms were disappointed by the Senate’s failure to act, but we were not deterred, and we’re making lemonade out of the lemons we were given."

Cole says her group is looking for stronger gun laws, including background checks at gun shows and for internet sales.

"Our organization was started in December after Sandy Hook," said Cole. "It was not the deciding factor, but the last straw."

The Moms will deliver the postcards to Woodall's office at GJAC.
