Inadequate Sneeze Guards at Hampton Inn: Restaurant Inspections September 26

Violations: 12A, Violation of Code: [.04(4)(u) ] 1)Apples in dish on dining table not covered or wrapped. Only place fruits without edible peels onto dining tables. 2) Oatmeal toppings (brown sugar, cranberries, and walnuts) are offered in self-service in unapproved container; in order for customer to obtain the toppings, they must open the lid which exposes the food to contamination. Shield container with sneeze guards or offer toppings in individually packaged single servings. 3)Sneeze guards are above 14 inches from food containers and are therefore not adequate enough to intercept contaminants. Lower/ adjust sneeze guards to a height of 14 inches or less from food containers. Note: the currently installed sneeze guards are adjustable. 12D, Violation of Code: [.04(4)(g) ] Apples received from supplier and not washed before placing directly into buffet for self-service. Apples removed and washed. All fruits and vegetables must be washed before serving.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. Food on display shall be protected from contamination by the use of packaging; counter, service line, or salad bar food guards; display cases; or other effective means.  Repeat Violation. 13A, Violation of Code: [.10(2)(g) ] Inspection report is shielded by hot service bar on buffet. Move report to a more visible location. The current food service inspection report shall be displayed in a conspicuous place wherein it is easily readable by the customer.  New Violation. 14B, Violation of Code: [.05(10)(e) ] Containers and measuring cups in kitchen area were not stored upside down to properly dry. Wet containers and lemonade drink dispenser were covered with lid and not allowed to air-dry. Allow containers to properly air-dry by inverting them or placing in self-draining position. All equipment and utensils must be stored in self-draining position that allows air-drying.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 14C, Violation of Code: [.05(10)(e) ] Beverage cups for single-service are not covered from contamination through sneezing, coughing, touching, etc. Cover cups in a protective sleeve such as the original package sleeve. Single-use items must be be kept in the original protective package or stored by using other means that afford protection from contamination until used.  Repeat Violation. 15A, Violation of Code: [.05(3)(f) ] Apples for self-service on buffet did not have a utensil provided. A utensil was added to allow self-service. A food dispensing utensil shall be available for each container displayed at a consumer self-service unit such as a buffet or salad bar.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation. 17A, Violation of Code: [.06(5)(h) ] Women's bathroom is missing covered receptacle. Add covered receptacle to restroom. All women's restrooms must have a covered receptacle for the purpose of discarding sanitary napkins.  New Violation.
