Sewage Spill Of 6,616 Gallons Enters Pew Creek
A sewage spill of approximately 6,616 gallons entered Pew Creek Dec. 14 from a manhole in Lawrenceville.

Lawrenceville, GA, - A sewage spill of approximately 6,616 gallon entered Pew Creek Dec. 14 from a manhole at 155 Meadowbrook Drive in Lawrenceville according to the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources, or DWR.
The cause was determined to be wipes, paper and other products. The DWR was notified at 12:47 p.m. and the overflow was stopped at 2:35 p.m.
To help mitigate the effects of the spill, DWR employees raked the area and spread lime. Signs letting residents know of the spill have been placed in the area. The Georgia EPD was notified Dec. 14.

Some products considered 'flushable' do not disperse or break apart once they are in the sanitary sewer system, according to the DWR. As these non-dispersible items collect in the sewer pipe, they can eventually cause blockages that can lead to sanitary sewer backups or overflows.
