Subdivision Access Limited During Gas Leak

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- A gas leak caused by a construction crew limited access to the Spring Arbor Subdivision Tuesday to residents only, according to the Gwinnett Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 3:28 p.m. to a report of a gas leak at the intersection of Spring Gate Drive SW and Webb Gin House Road SW in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The caller to 911 reported that a crew hit a line and could hear hissing and blowing.

Crews arrived and found a 4-inch main that had been struck by a construction crew. The leak was located at the front of the Spring Arbor subdivision and caused the asphalt to buckle. As safety precautions, fire personnel shut down the roadway and deployed a hand line along with a fire extinguisher. Gas meters were used to determine the extent of the hazard in the area. Residents were not required to evacuate.

Atlanta Gas and Light sent two repair crews to fix the leak. Their initial concern was that they were going to have to cut off service to the 200 homes in the subdivision in order to repair the damaged line. Atlanta Gas & Light was able to bypass the leak which allowed the residents to maintain service without any interruptions during repairs.

Access to Spring Gate Drive and Great Oaks Drive from Webb Gin House road has been closed until the repairs can be completed. Only residents of the Spring Arbor Subdivision were able to access these roads.
