13 Displaced by Residential Fire in Lilburn
Firefighters say a house fire that broke out on Grove Place Crossing in Lilburn Friday morning caused heavy damage to the residence.

Eight adults and five children were displaced by a Friday morning fire that caused extensive damage to a residence at the 5600 block of Grove Place Crossing in Lilburn.
Crews who arrived around 6:30 a.m. found heavy fire showing from the back of a two-story wood frame house. The fire was already burning on both floors and in the attic as fire crews deployed attack hose lines. Firefighters immediately entered the home and worked aggressively to stop the fire spread, but not before the flames caused heavy damage to the back of the home. The fire sent extensive smoke and heat throughout the rest of the house.
Occupants who were home at the time of the fire were alerted by smoke alarms sounding and smoke coming from the vents. Three adults were awake at the time and saw the smoke coming from the vents. All occupants were all were able to escape with no reported injuries.

The fire department is still working to determine the exact cause of the fire, which they say appears to be accidental.
“We are fortunate that the occupants who were awake saw the smoke; and that the home was equipped with working smoke alarms,” said Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge.
