LILBURN, GA - A man was rescued by Gwinnett County firefighters on Monday from a burning Lilburn house and taken to a local hospital with injuries, the Gwinnett County Fire Department told the Gwinnett Daily Post.

The fire, in the 4000 block of Sheila Court in Lilburn, was reported with a 911 call at 10:28 a.m. The caller said a person was trapped in the house.

Once inside, firefighters couldn’t find the man on the main level or upstairs area. They found a stairwell to the basement, where they discovered him unconscious and in cardiac arrest, according to WSB-TV.

“He was in respiratory and cardiac arrest when they got to him, so he was having a heart attack. Literally, he was in the process of having a heart attack,” said Gwinnett County Fire Spokesperson Donald Strother.

The firefighters pulled him from the burning house and performed CPR.

Firefighters were able to get a pulse and he was breathing when they rushed him to the emergency room.

“We all worked as a team. We all communicated well, and we were able to get him out,” firefighter Trent Garrison told WSB-TV.

The firefighters didn't want to be called heroes.

“This is what we do. This is why we signed up,” Garrison told WSB.

The fire victim is now receiving treatment at a local hospital for smoke inhalation and his heart attack.
