Gwinnett Distillery Adds Hand Sanitizer To Bottled Offerings

LILBURN, GA — Gwinnett County's only distillery has expanded its bottled selection of spirits and liqueurs to include hand sanitizer. The Hope Springs Distillery, which saw cars lining up down the block to buy its new product, is entering a second weekend of curbside alcohol and sanitizer sales.

The Lilburn business developed a drive-up model and sanitizer product at the end of March, as Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp issued a stay-at-home order across the state to curb the new coronavirus.

Each purchase of drinkable alcohol comes with an 8-ounce bottle of hand sanitizer . The sanitizer can also be bought for $7 a bottle. A limit of four sanitizer bottles was imposed "to ensure access to as many people as possible."

With no surprises, Hopes Springs Distillery sold out of sanitizer by the end of the weekend. Now, distillery employees are back with what they estimate as 40-50 percent more product.

"Please be patient – this actually worked quite well – wait in your car until you get to our back rollup door, jump out, get what you need, and clear the space." the distillery said in a Facebook post. "This is our version of 'social distance” recommendations' - we love y’all and want you to stick around long after this."

One group that didn't have to wait in line was Lilburn Police Department. The distillery donated the first batch to the department's first responders.

"Bottom line – we’re trying to protect our friends and neighbors as well as first responders," the business said online. "Yes, we are selling this, at a cost apparently less than most others. We are a small boutique distillery, and we’re here to be a productive part of our community, period."
