Concrete sidewalks will be installed along both sides of Five Forks Trickum Road, with pedestrian markings at each intersection. The improvements also include curb and gutter and drainage upgrades.

Also, new traffic signal lines and equipment will be installed from Ronald Reagan Parkway to Killian Hill Road. These improvements will allow direct communication to the traffic signals from the county's Traffic Control Center for timing adjustments.

The contract amount, roughly $11.5 million, was the lowest of three bids the county received. It will be funded 92 percent by funds from the county's 2009 special-purpose, local option sales tax, 6 percent from a Water and Sewer Renewal and Extension Fund and 2 percent from the 2014 SPLOST.

The board also awarded a nearby sidewalk contract to CMES. The sidewalk will extend along the west side of Hewatt Road, from U.S. 78 to Cherie Glen Road.
