Kroger Customers Raise More Than $674,000 to Support Breast Cancer Awareness, Treatment and Research

The multi-faceted campaign ran from Oct. 5 – Nov. 1, and gave customers the opportunity to purchase pink paper ribbons for $1 at Kroger.

ATLANTA (Nov. 4, 2014) – Kroger customers and associates throughout the Atlanta Division donated more than $461,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and more than $213,000 to Kroger’s “Sharing Courage” campaign, for a total of $674,000 – surpassing the Division’s $450,000 goal by more than $224,000.

The multi-faceted campaign ran from Oct. 5 – Nov. 1, and gave customers the opportunity to purchase pink paper ribbons for $1 at Kroger checkout.

The two-week company-wide sales promotion “Sharing Courage” – in partnership with key suppliers including General Mills and Yoplait® – featured hundreds of popular products at special sale prices. Participating items included Kroger’s own products and others from key partners including P & G, Yoplait, Boar’s Head, Campbell’s, Birds Eye, Freschetta, Bertolli, Gatorade, Green Giant, Dreyer’s, Edy’s, Gordon’s, Energizer and Häagen-Dazs.

This year, Kroger’s “Sharing Courage” campaign generated $3 million to support local breast cancer initiatives in communities across the country served by the Kroger Family of Stores – including more than $213,000

from stores in the Atlanta Division.

“Thanks to the generosity of our customers and associates, we are one step closer to finding a cure for the more than 230,000 American women who are diagnosed each year,” says Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “We are committed to raising awareness and support for this important cause.”

Nationally, 16 Kroger associates who have survived breast cancer are featured as “Faces of Hope.” The stories of these survivors are spotlighted at www.SharingCourage.com and www.Facebook.com/SharingCourage. Sophia Kimbro of Decatur, Ga. represented the Atlanta Division.

Annually, thousands of Kroger customers join the fight against breast cancer through various community events and fundraisers. By the end of 2014, Kroger will have donated more than $27 million to support breast cancer research, education and services since 2006.
