Lilburn City Council Approves Fiscal Budget, Denies Business Alcohol License for Second Time
Here are some notes from their June meeting on Monday (June 10).
The Lilburn City Council held its monthly meeting Monday (June 10) where they discussed eight agenda items.
Here's a recap of the evening:
-The council approved 3-0 the budget for the city's 2013-2014 fiscal year. The annual budget begins in July and has a total cost of $9,780,673, which is lower than the previous year. Of that amount, $6,193,673 is for operations; $171,000 is for the city’s capital projects fund, and $3,416,000 is for the city’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) Fund Issue 2009. The city had two public hearings on the matter, one of them being the June city council meeting.

-The revision of the Special Event Policy was tabled. The proposed policy would create a uniform application process that provides city staff with more detailed event information. Fees in the proposed policy were adjusted to adequately cover the city’s event-related costs. Many organizations have been confronted about the costs, and some, including the Lilburn Woman's Club, are unhappy with the proposal, so the city has tabled the item to work out a compromise.
-For the second time, the council denied the alcohol license application of Bella's Banquet Hall due to previous alcohol-related incidents occurring on its premises. The council had denied the application at its May meeting, but it was revisited this month at the applicant's request.Â

-The council approved the city's Occupation Tax Ordinance Amendment, which includes a minimum of $25 to obtain a business license.
-Kettlewood Drive and Kettle Court will see resurfacing projects on their roads after the council approved the bid from Baldwin Paving Co. to do the job for $107,893. The city initially bid out resurfacing of four city streets, but the bids came back over budget, so the others were rejected. The project is funded by a Local Maintenance Improvement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation and 2005 SPLOST.
-The council passed the amended Road Closure Application requirements. Parade and race organizers will pay $100 instead of $250 for a permit, but they must pay for police personnel required for the events.
-The revision of the Pavilion Rental Policy was passed 3-0. The policy now allows renters to reserve only half of the pavilion. Fees were adjusted for the first time since 2006 to adequately cover the city’s rental staff and equipment usage, and Lilburn residents will continue to receive a discounted rate.
