2nd Man Shot Attempting Gwinnett Robbery Dies: Police

Police are asking anybody with information on the Tuesday night shooting to come forward.

LILBURN, GA — The second man who was shot while allegedly attempting a robbery on Tuesday died Thursday, according to police. Originally, police say, they believed a double shooting to be the result of a road rage incident, but later learned a vehicle with five men, two of whom were shot, was involved in a robbery during the shooting.

The Tuesday shooting in Gwinnett County off of I-85 was the result of a botched robbery and not a road rage incident, according to a release from the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Police say that a vehicle with five people inside — Harry Richardson, 20; Anthoney Esquero, 18; Kevin Gallardo, 17; Erik Vargas, 20; and Junio Lanuza-Gutierrez, 16 — was in the parking lot of 950 Indian Trail Rd. when the five attempted to rob somebody.

The person they tried to rob shot at the car, which then drove off.

According to the release, police got a call around 10:30 p.m. about a person shot near 700 Indian Trail Liburn Rd. Police found the car and two of the five men had been shot.

They initially told police they had been the victims of a road rage shooting. However, police later learned about the shooting in the parking lot.

Gutierrez and Vargas were shot, the release says, and Gutierrez died from his injuries Tuesday. Vargas died on Thursday.

Richardson, Esquero and Gallardo were charged with robbery and felony murder.
